10/22/09

Today was no exercise again, and no outside time despite gorgeous weather. I woke up feeling icky, but felt better as the day went on.
I think I have 3 of 4 sick again though. The little dude seemed fine for 2 days, and crashed with a terrible fever this afternoon.
I have to make a no exceptions time to workout or it won't happen.

Starting this weekend, unless I get sick again. Saturday morning workouts would be good for me. :)

Food today was ok:
Breakfast (way too late in the morning): 3 eggs and sundried tomatoes
Lunch: bowl of chips with sour cream dip, apple (not pictured)
Snack: vanilla yogurt (not pictured)
Dinner: wild caught Alaskan salmon, salad, green beans (not pictured)
Dessert: latte and 2 pieces chocolate (what? this is why we shouldn't buy Halloween candy ahead of time!)

soup and getting sick

Officially the little dude, has 5ths disease, which is a virus that is common, and generally uncomplicated. The rash on his cheeks moved down his trunk, and onto his arms. It wasn't raised or itchy, but it looked awful. He was down for about 2 days with it.

He passed it on to one of the girls, while the other girl and I got something else.

I haven't been eating a ton of food, since I'm not hungry, but have been doing pretty well.

I weighed myself today for the first time since starting, and I'm down about 4 pounds, a good, slow start.

2 of the things I ate quite a bit these last few days are the quinoa chili,  and coconut chicken soup (I included a veggie adaptation) I mentioned before. You can click the links for the recipes I used.

Exercise is still on hold mostly. I'm not inactive, but I haven't been walking as much since I've been a bit sick and prior to that it rained for days.

More tomorrow after a good night's sleep. :)

This weekend

I keep forgetting to post or take photos.

I've been eating things I shouldn't this weekend, like Combos, rum and Dr. Pepper, and chocolate chip cookies. it's hard for me to resist when things are in the house! I have not been eating that way every night though, which is a huge improvement.

My health concerns have practically disappeared by eliminating milk and dairy (for the most part). I will eventually try to add raw milk into my diet, but I still don't feel healed enough yet.

Saturday I ate:
banana
apple
coconut chicken soup
a bunch of junk!

Sunday I ate:
banana and oatmeal
chicken salad (chicken, safflower oil mayo, apple, spices), chips, Asian pear
Flank steak, frugal fries, green beans and salad
2 homemade cookies
rum and coke
1/2 chocolate cookie cookie

Today:
banana
the rest of my chicken salad, chips

Photos also include a very big cheat: a hamburger with bun! (I removed half cause the bun sucked), and a salad I loved spring mix, egg, sundried tomatoes, smoky tomato dressing.

this week

I had hoped to update every day, but we're having a crazy week.

The littlest dude has what appears to be an allergic reaction on his face, since yesterday. (it keep getting worse)

I keep getting itching fits, and allergic reactions to something, and my diet has been far from perfect. I ate popcorn at Disney on Ice last night, and there was a bit of cheese in the salad I ordered without cheese last night.

I'm working hard today to detox (lots of water), and am considering getting tested for food allergies via a more sensitive test. My blood test only showed an allergy to shrimp.

I've been eating a lot of repeat meals including my quinoa chili, chicken coconut rice soup, and oatmeal.

Exercise has been practically non-existent, and I'm working on a plan to change that. (stay tuned!)

Meal Plan 10/11-10/18

I'm basing my menus on 7 days right now (I want to stay in the habit of going to the farmer's market each week).

Lunches are generally packed for 2-3 of the family, and the rest of us eat leftovers, sandwiches, and I usually make one dish that's my lunch meal for the week. This week it's beans, tomatoes, quinoa, and broccoli rabe with lots of spices.

I won't put specific days on the meals because sometimes life gets in the way of good intentions.

  • brinner (breakfast for dinner)
  • the best flank steak ever (it is!) and frugal fries, veggies on the side
  • chicken "nuggets", green beans, and salad
  • soup and grilled cheese sandwiches (alternative for the picky PB&J)
  • chicken breasts, broccoli, salad
  • homemade pizza (I'll have leftovers)
  • pasta (for a night we need a quick meal)
Do you have a meal plan for the week?

10/10

Breakfast: oatmeal with pears, cinnamon, coconut milk beverage
Lunch: quinoa, broccoli rabe, beans, tomatoes, spices
Snack: Salad with hardboiled egg, and sundried tomatoes, Asian Pear (not pictured), sample honeycrisp apple
Dinner: broccoli and chicken

I cheated! I had flourless chocolate cake, and 2 frou-frou (and expensive!!!) drinks. Well worth it!

10/09

Breakfast: oatmeal, nuts, fruit butter, coconut milk
Snacks: locally grown apple, frozen wild blueberries, egg with pepper.
Lunch: some carrots and hummus, 3 slices of pepperoni, 1/2 small bowl of olives
Dinner: chicken/apple salad (take out)- meh, this wasn't great.

Farmer's Market grocery shopping

I've decided to start a new routine. On Saturday mornings we (or in this case I) will go to the local farmer's market early and load up on local food.

This will be the basis of my meal planning for the week.

This week I purchased:
Asian pears
Apples
Asian pear butter
Broccoli rabe (my fav veggie)
Carrots
Broccoli
Bread for French toast (for the rest of the fam)
Young Ginger

I rounded that out with a trip to the local chain store and we are headed to Trader Joe's later for a few staples. (we shop there about once a month)

I like this way of shopping since it starts with locally grown fruits and veggies.

Do you shop at a farmer's market?
